I know it doesn't seem like it here at Gastronomic Girls but we can, very occasionally, feel the need of a break from alcohol. This often happens when we've had weekends where the candle has been burnt at both ends; down to a stub on some occasions!
In this case it was due to the cumulative effects of enthusiastically helping a friend to celebrate her birthday followed swiftly by large volumes of wine finding their way into my possession at The Boyfriend's family reunion. In my delicate state the following afternoon, as I recounted my tale of woe to a friend over tea, I was suddenly struck by memories of how I dealt with my hangovers when I travelled through Thailand.
Some wise, and probably equally hungover, person informed me that the best thing to have after a few too many was the coconut fruit smoothie available on most of the breakfast menus. Coconut, they sagely advised me, is apparently bursting with antioxidants. Full of memories of refreshing fruity concoctions I hightailed it into the nearest supermarket and bought what I thought was a suitably tropical selection of ingredients to recreate my hangover remedy.
This smoothie seemed to sort me out but, if 'hair of the dog' is more like your hangover cure of choice, you could easily turn this into a tasty cocktail with a shot or two of rum!
2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 medium pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
1 can of coconut milk
juice of 3 passion fruit (or lemon juice to taste)
