Fabulous Friday: Cocktail Hour

I should really be posting this recipe as part of our series on how to handle cocktail emergencies seeing as how a quick forage in the fruit bowl in a moment of desperation could result in the necessary key ingredient. However, as The Boyfriend first made me one of these on an evening when us and a neighbour consumed about twenty cocktails between the three of us I can't exactly claim to have been dying of thirst.  If anything, I was in need of some emergency solpadeine the next day! 
kiwi martini (makes one)

1 kiwi, peeled and chopped into chunks
25ml sugar syrup 
50ml vodka
large handful of ice cubes
slices of kiwi to garnish, if desired

Place the chunks of kiwi fruit into a cocktail shaker and crush to a pulp using a muddler.  Add the ice, syrup and vodka and shake until well chilled.  Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a slice of kiwi.  If you're bothered about kiwi seeds ending up in the finished cocktail you will need to strain the cocktail through a small sieve.  However, I think the contrast of the black seeds sitting at the bottom of the glass looks quite attractive.
